Green Friday – Tip for the day: Seasonal & Local Foods

Seasonal Foods: Eating seasonal foods just makes common sense.  If we eat food when it is suppose to be, it is delicious.  Eating a ripe soft tomato in the summer is a different animal to its hard, plastic looking counterpart in the winter.  The same is true for many fruits if they are not in season.  Produce that is eaten out of season is not kind to the environment: Fruits and vegetables have to travel thousands of miles to get to us, burning huge amounts of energy to do so.  They are gased, injected, or sprayed with chemicals to prolong their life. 

Local Foods:  If you buy locally, it’s more likely than not going to be in season.  Farmers markets are a great way to get your seasonal fruits and vegetables.  Go to:
